It is with great sadness that family, friends and care givers of Joan Freeman announce her passing at the age of 80 years. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her friends and family. She loved going for drives and listening to country music, baking, painting and relaxing on the deck with her favorite blanket. Those who knew her would acknowledge that there were many things Joan was not able to do. She couldn’t talk or do many of the things that other people take for granted daily. Her friends and care givers looked past that to share in the excitement of the many things that she could do. Joan could smile, laugh and she exuded happiness and love without condition. She could express her love with a look, a smile and with a squeeze. Joan could even express her love by showing who she felt comfortable enough to fall asleep near because she trusted she would be cared for. She taught those around her to be happy because she took joy in the simple things and gave us the gift of beauty. Her life wasn’t easy and it wasn’t glamourous. There were a lot of hard times for her, but she taught everyone how to see past the difficulties. Everyone should celebrate the life she led and the lessons she shared inspiring everyone to be better. Joan’s presence was a gift to her friends and care givers and she will be deeply missed. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, November 17, 2017, between 9:00 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. A Celebration of Joan’s life will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Major Murray Jaster officiating and interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
