1941-2017
Bathurst – Mrs. Joan D. Smith, 76,
wife of Lyman Smith, formerly of Morrison Ct., Bathurst, passed away
on Wednesday November 22, 2017, at the Foyer Notre Dame de
Lourdes.
Born in Sackville, NB, she was the
daughter of the late Arnold and Bernice (Hicks)
Tower.
Joan worked as a teacher for most of
her life and concluded her career as Principal of Janeville Elementary
School. Upon retirement she was a member of the NB Retired Teachers
Association and an active member of the District Education
Council. She was a member of the Gloucester Chapter IODE,
recently honored with a life membership, and enjoyed her Bridge
groups, as well as, the company of a wide circle of friends and
family.
Besides her husband, she is survived
by two children: Shari Smith-Ellis (Peter) of Janeville and
Scott Smith (Karen) of Calgary, AB and one grandson, Jackson
Smith.
One brother, Gary Tower (Liz) of
Amherst, NS. One sister, Deb Boran (Tom) of Halifax, NS.
One brother-in-law, Jim Betts of Lower Sackville,
NS.
As well as, two sisters-in-law on her
husband’s side, Elaine Smith of Port Elgin, NB and Bessie
Chapman of Riverview, NB. Several nieces and
nephews.
She was pre-deceased by a brother,
Keith and a sister, Carol
Betts.
The family will receive relatives and
friends on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Elhatton’s Funeral Home
(www.elhatton.com). Funeral service will be held on Saturday
November 25, 2017 at 1 p.m. from The Point Church, O’Neil
Dr., Bathurst. Donations in memory of Joan may be made to
the Janeville Elementary School or a favorite
charity.
