It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Jill McKinney in her 78th year of life. Jill fought a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer since 2008. Jill touched so many people’s lives in a positive way and will be greatly missed by everybody that knew her and loved her.
Jill was the beloved wife of Al McKinney for 55 years, sister to Sue, loving mother to Laurie, Jo-Anne, Scott and Chris, mother in law to Laurie and Liz, and caring grandmother to Matthew, Savannah, Samantha, Shea, Emmett, Liam and Harrison.
Jill was an avid volunteer throughout her life- beginning with the Kinnettes as a young adult. Since then, Jill has worked for many years with the Meals on Wheels program, The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Lachine General Hospital as well as the Lachine Centre d’Accueil . In addition to this, over the past decade, Jill spent time with newly diagnosed cancer patients re-assuring them of what to expect during chemotherapy, and with cancer in general. When the new MUHC Glen Hospital was completed and patients were unsure about how to get to the hospital via public transit, Jill volunteered to take them on the bus to show them the route. There are so many other examples of Jill’s selflessness throughout the course of her life but suffice to say, Jill always wanted to give back to others.
The family is so grateful for the incredible care provided by Dr Lucy Gilbert, Dr Andonian, Enza, Joanne, and the entire team at the Royal Victoria /Glen Hospital through the years. Also, thanks to the staff at the West Island Palliative Care Residence –Stillview /Vivalis site, for making Jill’s final days- and the entire families’ so comfortable and peaceful.

A celebration of Jill’s life will take place at the J.J Cardinal Funeral Home on Lakeshore Drive in Dorval on August 4th from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm.
