Jean Violet Phillips – 1924 – 2017

Obituary of Jean Phillips
Passed quietly surrounded by family members at University Gates Long Term Care Centre, on March 4, 2017, at the age of 92 years.
Survived by her four children Sharon (David) Alvarez, Daniel (Jan) Phillips, Lois (Victor) Thomas, Douglas (Carolyn) Phillips. Also, sadly missed by her loving grandchildren Jennie, Nathan, Nigiel, Sarah, Lauren and Andrew.
Predeceased by her husband David Blagdon Phillips (1920-2006)
Jean was born in Vancouver, BC. As a youth, she worked in her father’s jewelry shop. Jean had an adventurous life and was considerate of others. She and her husband (David) were missionaries in Bolivia from 1950 to 1965 and again in 1982 for three more years. While in Bolivia she worked at the Christian Radio Station (Cruz to Sur). She helped train women and was instrumental to the improvement of their health. She was also an editor of a Bolivian Christian magazine. After returning from Bolivia, they lived in Calgary, Owen Sound, and Barrie. In Barrie, she completed her studies and became a social worker. Their retirement took them to Midland. She spent her last four years in Waterloo.
Family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to the valuable caring staff at University Gates where she was loved and called “Mamacita.”
The funeral service will be held Friday, March 10, 2017, at 3 pm at the Highland Baptist Church 135 Highland Rd W, Kitchener, ON N2M 3B9. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. at the church.
