Obituary for Jean Stella Balon
Jean Stella Balon passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at St. Paul’s Hospital at the age of 85. Jean grew up in the Carpenter area and was the eldest of nine children. She helped her family with the farm until she got a job in housekeeping at the Wakaw Hotel. Jean met her husband Ernie in Wakaw and they were married in July of 1957. Jean and Ernie resided in Prince Albert until 1966 when they moved to Saskatoon where they have resided ever since. Jean worked as a cook at the Frank Eliason Centre and Parkridge Centre. Retirement winters were spent in Arizona. In the summer, they spent all their time at their cabin at Wakaw Lake. Jean loved her garden at the lake where she took pride in taking care of her flowers and the birds. Jean loved her grandchildren dearly and would spend as much time with them as she could. She enjoyed shopping and coffee at Market Mall, socials and card playing at the condo. She will be sadly missed. Jean leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her children: Judy (Greg) Dunn of Buffalo, New York, Allen (Kristin) Balone of San Diego, California, and Colleen (Andrew) Marinig of Toronto, Ontario; her grandchildren: Kendall, Alexis, Lucy and Olivia; her siblings: Peter (Marg) Sosnowski, Vera Ranger, Ed (Anne) Sosnowski, Morris (Velma) Sosnowski, Lawrence Sosnowski, Iris (Brian) Shewchuk and Ivan (Neta) Sosnowski; her brother-in-law Morris Zavialetz and her sisters -in-law Doreen Balon and Eileen Hnidy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives & friends. Jean was predeceased by her parents Nick and Ann (Stefaniuk) Sosnowski, her husband Ernest, her sister Gloria Zavialetz, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Sid Ranger, Bev Sosnowski, Nick (Elsie) Balon, George Balon and John Hnidy. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Lepine on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Patrick Powalinsky officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jean may be directed to the St. Michael’s Parish, Lepine. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
