Passed away at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, Ontario on Sunday, December 17th after a brief illness. Jean was born Jean Crews in 1930 and was predeceased by her parents, Douglas and Ida Crews, by her brother Sandy (Alexander) and his wife, Jane Crews, and one of their children, David Crews (Cindy Moffitt). She was also predeceased by her first husband, Hugh Bradley, by her second husband, Dr. Lorne Dickson and one of his sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Jane Dickson. Jean is survived by her three nephews Doug Crews (Angela), Peter Crews (Elizabeth), Mark Crews (Catherine), five grand nieces and nephews and as well as her extended family, Susan Both (Bob Watson), Grant Dickson (Doreen), five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her career was cut short by an automobile accident in 1974. Her volunteer work focused on the Stephen Leacock Associates where her love for Canadian humour was fulfilled by working with authors, publishers and literary judges. A recent highlight was presenting the 2015 Leacock Medal for Humour to Terry Fallis. At Jean’s request, no funeral is to be held but rather a celebration of her life is to be arranged in 2018. Arrangements entrusted to the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E., Orillia, (705) 326-3595.
