Jean E. Kinloch
1919-2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Jean
Kinloch, formerly of New Maryland, NB on Friday, December 29, 2017 at
Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB. She was born in Huddersfield,
Yorkshire, England on June 26, 1919. She was the wife of the
late Alexander Murray Kinloch.
Jean joined the Civil Defence at the outbreak of
WWII. She went overseas with the Women’s Voluntary
Services (now the W.R.V.S.) and served in Gent, Belgium; Nijmegen,
Holland and Gottingen, Germany where she met her husband, Murray, who
was a captain in the Manchester Regiment and teaching in Gottingen at
the College of the Rhine Army. After demobilisation, they
married in 1950 and lived in Crail, Scotland, where Murray attended
St. Andrews University. They moved to Cottingham, East
Yorkshire, for 2 years, where Murray taught at the University of Hull,
before accepting an appointment at the University of Wales in
Aberystwyth. After 5 years in Wales, the opportunity came to
move to Canada, to the University of New Brunswick, and in 1959 they
arrived in Fredericton, which became their home.
In 1969 Jean became one of the founders of the International
Fund for Animal Welfare and was active with the fund for over 30
years. She was also a supporter of various animal and
environmental organizations.
She is survived by three nieces, many special friends and her
beloved cat, Simeon.
Jean was predeceased by her parents; husband, Murray; sister,
Sylvia Bray and brother, William Leighton Wall.
The family and friends would like to thank all the staff at
Wauklehegan Manor for the wonderful care they have given Jean over the
last several months. They would also like to extend their
appreciation to the staff of the Wellness Connection, Bayshore staff
as well as the staff at Ste. Anne’s Court that were so kind
to Jean when she lived in Fredericton.
There will be no visitation at Jean’s
request. A memorial service will be held in the J. A. McAdam
Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
Rev. Canon T. A. Smith will officiate. Interment will take
place at a later date in the St. Mary the Virgin Cemetery, New
Maryland, NB. For those who wish, memorial tributes in
