Obituary for Janina “Jenny” Malinowski
On Tuesday, October 31, 2017 Janina Malinowski passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Janina Malinowski (nee Bury) was born on September 20, 1923 in Olyka Volynia, Poland. Janina and her family lived in that area until 1940, when the war forced her family into Russian labor camps.
In 1942 Janina was transported to Palestine to join the Polish Army and was trained in telecommunications. She met and later married Marian Malinowski in 1944. While in Palestine their first son, Zbigniew (Ben) was born. After the war they were transported to England where their second son, Janusz (Jon) was born. In 1948 Janina and Marian moved to Edmonton. Their third child, Krystina was born in Edmonton. Janina and Marian were devoted parents and were extremely proud of their children and their achievements.
The early years in Edmonton as new immigrants were difficult for Marian and Janina. The communities of Church, friends and Polish organizations supported them as they built their new life in Canada. Janina was a skilled seamstress and was employed by a local garment factory in Edmonton. She was very involved within the Polish community and was a choir member of the Holy Rosary Church.
At the time of her passing, Janina was an active member of the Polish Women’s Federation and Polish Combatants Association.
Her memory will be cherished by her children, Ben (Susan) and Krystina (Brian); her grandchildren, Mark, Andrea, Celene (Billy), Greg, Michelle (levi), Julian and Natalia, daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Janusz) and great-granddaughter, Taya. Janina was predeceased by her husband, Marian; and son, Janusz.
The family wishes to thank everyone who visited and provided companionship to Jenny over these past years, with special mention to Anna and Leon Warner, Marketa Graham, Bruno Stasiak, Ted Bartoszewski, and Dr. David Fields.
Funeral Mass Monday, November 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 11485 – 106 Street, Edmonton.
