Obituary of Janet Hogan
HOGAN, Janet Christine
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Janet, a devoted and wonderful wife and cherished and much loved daughter.
Janet (nee Peyton) passed away peacefully on October 6, 2017 at Welland General Hospital after a lengthy illness with her husband John and parents, Larry and Eleanor at her side.
Janet was born in Port Colborne on August 22, 1959 and spent her early years there developing close and lasting friendships. Later, the family moved to Sudbury where Janet spent her teenage years. After a brief stint at Waterloo University, Janet struck out on her own working as a teller initially at Canada Trust and then TD Bank. Her banking career progressed over the years, with Janet assuming increasingly responsible positons. At the time of her retirement, she had worked in four of the Big Five Banks as a Human Resources Compensation Specialist.
Central to Janet’s life was her faith. She was an active volunteer in the many and varied activities of her parish and later served as Deputy Warden and Warden of the Cathedral Church of St. James in Toronto. During this time, she was engaged in the refurbishment of the Cathedral Centre. Her organizational skills were much in evidence in her involvement in major events in the life of the Cathedral.
After retirement from the business world, Janet set herself to develop the rebuilt Cathedral centre as a premier meeting and conference venue in downtown Toronto. Her dedication, professionalism and talent were reflected in the success achieved within a short time after tackling this challenge. This work in support of the Church was a natural outlet for her skills and brought her great satisfaction.
Janet and her husband moved to Port Colborne on his retirement and she immersed herself in renewing old friendships and establishing new relationships.
In her final illness, Janet’s courage sustained by her deep faith, love and concern for others was an exemplary example to her family and friends.
Janet is survived by her husband of 27 years John, parents Larry and Eleanor, brother Jeff and many nieces and nephews. Janet was a generous, caring and loyal friend to many.
The family would like to thank the many health care professionals who cared for Janet. Their support, compassion and professionalism were a great source of comfort.
Family and friends are invited to visit at DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME 135 Clarence St. Port Colborne on Thursday October 12, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Anglican Church of St. James and St. Brendan in Port Colborne on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Morgan’s Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the MS Society of Canada or in support of the St. James and St. Brendan Downtown Park Project would be gratefully received.
