Janet Hingley
1928-2017
Janet Anne Hingley, age 89, of New Glasgow, formerly of
Meiklefield, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017, in the Aberdeen
Hospital. Born in the Aberdeen Hospital, she was a daughter of the
late Cleveland and Sarah (Kennedy) Munroe. Janet attended school in
Egerton, New Glasgow and Teachers’ College in Truro. She
began teaching at age 17 in Pine Tree. Until consolidation, she taught
in several country schools and later she ended her career at Thorburn
Consolidated where she was a Reading Specialist, Vice Principal and
Acting Principal. In the fifties, she raised her family, farmed, and
assisted Stanley in his business. Janet was a life member of the
Women’s Institute, the N.S. PC Association and was honoured
by the Nova Scotia Reading Specialist Association. She was a leader
with CGIT and Explorers in Blue Mountain. After moving to New Glasgow,
she was active in the UCW at Trinity United Church. Janet is survived
by her husband, Stanley; daughter, Carol Ann (Mike) Baudoux, New
Glasgow; son, James Stanley, Halifax; granddaughter, Kate, Trenton,
ON; sisters: Maud Smith, Stewiacke; Katie Brennan, New Glasgow;
Margaret (Dick) Chittick, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Wilda Munroe,
Egerton; and several wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased
by her brother, John. Cremation has taken place. There will be no
visitation. A public graveside service will be held at 2 pm Thursday
in the Telford Cemetery, with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating.

C/O PO Box 1, New Glasgow NS, B2H 5E1. Arrangements are under the
direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New
Glasgow.
