Obituary for Janet Cameron White (Edwards)
Janet Cameron White nee Edwards, age 89, of Ottawa passed away on October 3rd near Portland, Ontario. Janet was predeceased by her husband of 56 years Fredrick Wallis White. Janet was a lifetime resident of Ottawa and the Big Rideau Lake near Portland, Ontario. Proximity to nature and outdoor-activity brought her endless amounts of joy. She was a voracious reader of books and daily news, a talented athlete and a fantastic cook with a great sense humour. Janet was a graduate of Elmwood School and McGill University, she valued education and life-long learning. She retired from a teaching position in Early Childhood Education at Algonquin College after 25 years where she expressed her deep commitment to children’s education and art. For Janet’s five grandchildren, Faith, Amy, Zoe, Max and Jackie she as the beloved ‘Nana of books, ice cream and cottage life.’ She was mother to five children, Gordon White (partner Gail Sibley), Ann White, Jocelyn Rose (husband Peter), Mary Pochobradsky (husband Pavel) and Lucy Spalding (husband Jay) and sister to Mary (Mackie) Hertz, Elizabeth Edwards (deceased) and Ann Stewart. Janet’s infectious love of the outdoors and books leaves a legacy of hikers and readers spread across the U.S and Canada. We are planning a gathering of friends and family on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 between 4 pm and 7 pm at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) in Ottawa. In Memoriam donations to the Rideau Lakes Environmental Foundation appreciated.
