October 1, 1922- November 20, 2017
Jim passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, at the Brantford General Hospital, with his loving family by his side on Monday, November 20th, 2017. Loving father of Kenneth (Bette), Kathleen, Donald (Dorie), Douglas (Maureen), Dennis (Brenda), and Sheilah Davis (Don). Predeceased by Phurn (2015), his cherished wife of 71 years, sons Clifford, Terry, and Rory Sean, grandson Richard, parents Gertrude and James Cullen, brother Jack, and sisters Agnes, Alice, and Jean. Survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Jim was very proud of his service as a Flying Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. He might get his children’s birthdates confused, but never the day he got his wings. After graduating from Queen’s University as a Professional Engineer he worked for many years at Davis Leather in Newmarket, Ontario, Eisendrath Tanning Company in Racine, Wisconsin, and S.C. Johnson and Sons in Brantford, Ontario. Since retirement he has enjoyed spending time with his extended family and relaxing at his cabin in Northwestern Quebec. Special thanks to granddaughter Katrina Davis who has cared for him the last two years, allowing him to keep his independence and stay in his own home despite his blindness. Thank you, too, to all the ambulance attendants, doctors, nurses, and all staff at BGH, as well as the LHIN (CCAC) workers we have come in contact with in the last two months. The level of care and compassion he received was exemplary. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., on Saturday, Nov. 25th from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. followed by a reception in the Beckett-Glaves Magnolia Wing. A private interment will be held at a later date.
A tree will be planted in memory of James in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
