GUTHRIE: IVAN RICHARD (1936-2017)
Ivan Richard Guthrie (formerly of Seal Cove, Grand Manan)
passed away July 4, 2017 at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews,
NB. He was 80 years old.
Ivan was born on August 20, 1936 in Grand Harbour, Grand
Manan. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Myrtle
(Foster) Guthrie. He spoke fondly of his childhood, growing
up in Ingalls Head. One of his favorite memories was of skating across
the frozen harbor to Ross’ Island with his
brothers.
As an adult, he worked on the Grand Manan ferry, at lobster
fishing, and as a faithful employee of Connors Bros. with over 40
years of service at their Seal Cove factory (only missing 1/2 day of
work in all those years).
He was a devout husband and loving father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. He was a long-time member of Seal Cove
Baptist Church. His hobbies included curling, gardening, and
of course, cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays. Ivan never
met a stranger and would stop to socialize with anyone who crossed his
path. He was loved by all who knew him.
Ivan is survived by his wife Yvonne (Guptill,Zwicker)
Guthrie, his daughter Rose Mary (Douglas) Tatton, grandchildren Robyn
Tatton, Holly (Tim) Branscombe, Kaley Tatton and Jordan (April)
Tatton, and 6 great grandchildren, as well as his
step-children Lori Bedford, Sharon (Sam) Greenlaw, Howard (Bernadine)
Zwicker, Carol (Doug) Bothewell, Jeff (Pauline) Zwicker, and
Peggy (Hollie) Clark, as well as many step-grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Ernest
Guthrie, Nelson (Rosalie) Guthrie, and sister Zelda (Wilbur) Foote, as
well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret (Green) Guthrie
in 2004 and his sister Nellie McLaughlin.
Visitation will take place at Seal Cove Baptist Church on
Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at
Seal Cove Baptist Church on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 1:00pm with Rev.
Peter Smith officiating.

Baptist Church, the Gideons, or to the organization of the
donor’s choice.
Ivan’s family would like to thank the doctors,
nurses and staff of the Grand Manan Hospital, pharmacist Glen Gilmore,
the staff of Kindred Care Home Care, and the nurses and staff of
Passamaquody Lodge for their compassionate care.
