Isabel passed peacefully on November 30, 2017. She is survived by her daughter Catherine A. Holliday and her husband Alfred. She was predeceased by her husband Denis David (Red) Friesen in 1994, father Robert Cooper Smith in 1966, mother Catherine Isabel Davis in 1985 and by her sister Shirley May Smith-Oliver in 1981.
Isabel was born May 4, 1923 in Castor, Alberta. At a early age the family moved to Calgary and that is where Isabel attended public and high school. She enrolled at the Calgary… General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated 1945. She spent the first years of her career in Edmonton, University of Alberta Hospital. She then moved back to Calgary where she met and married Red.
Red’s military career saw the family in many Canadian Forces Base’s and whatever the abode Isabel made it the family home.
She was an avid singer with many Church choirs, a member of various Ladies Guilds, a Brownie leader, she also made ceramics and instructed Candy Stripers.
Retirement saw Isabel and Red in Nanaimo, B.C., where she was a staunch member of Sweet Adelines.
She moved back to Calgary in 1997, after Red’s passing to be near her family.
A Memorial service will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home, 200 Woodgate Road Okotoks, AB. on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
