Obituary of Irene Gallant
Irene Estelle Gallant, 89, died peacefully Friday, December 22, 2017 in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family.
Irene was born February 7, 1928 in Gardiner Mines to Joseph and Annie Musial.
She enjoyed her life as a stay at home mother, taking great care of her family, pets and home. Irene loved her daily walks to Dominion, baking and tending to her yard. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Gardiner Mines Pensioners Hall. Irene was a member of St. James church, Gardiner Mines, where she spent many years in the church choir and auxiliary club.
Irene is survived by her children, Myles (Denise) Gallant, Sheldon Gallant, Myrna Desjardin, Mary Gallant, Joyce (David) Mal and Richard Gallant (Heather); grandchildren, Rob MacMullen, Renee (Cory) Gallant/Strickland, Cara Lee Beals (Darren), Greg Gallant, Cheryl (Andrew) Murray, Frances Gallant, David (Meaghan) Gallant, Christopher Gallant, Irene Gallant and Stephanie Gallant; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Violet McNeil; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, James P. Gallant; parents, Joseph and Annie Musial; sister, Angela Starzyczny; nine brothers; and infant son, James Gallant.
A service will take place Wednesday, January 3, 2 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
