Irene Marie Scarr
(nee Tkachuk)
On August 30, 2017, Irene passed away suddenly in Winnipeg.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra; son Lyall; nephew Ron Tkachuk and his wife Sherrin; nephew Gerald Tkachuk; numerous granchildren and great grandchildren; and best friend of 60 years, Shirley Ek. Irene was predeceased by her parents Matthew and Rose Tkachuk; husband Lloyd Edward Scarr; son Edward Lloyd Scarr; brother Roy Tkachuk and nephew Dennis Tkachuk.
Irene was born April 4, 1928 and she immigrated to Canada with her family in June 1937 and settled in the farming area of Gilbert Plains, MB. She met her husband Lloyd in 1948 in Windsor, ON at which time they relocated to Portage la Prairie, MB where they raised their family.
Irene enjoyed 25 years with Canada Safeway in Portage as a cashier and florist, and became a member of the “Safeway Girls” group. She spent many hours with her friends at the Herman Prior Centre and was a member of the Ukranian Womens Association.
She treasured her family, valued her numerous friends, enjoyed gardening, knitting, and her growing collection of frogs. She will be greatly missed by all and everyone who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Father Michael Skrumeda. Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Irene’s memory to the Herman Prior Centre, 40 Royal Road N, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1V1.
