Obituary Overview
Lovingly Remembered
It is with deep sadness we say goodbye to Howard our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend who passed away December 22, 2017 at the age of 78 years. Howard was born in Red Deer, Alberta on August 6, 1939. He grew up in the Condor area. After completing high school at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, he continued his education at Mountain View Bible College in Didsbury, and then went on to study at Seattle Pacific University and complete his Master of Divinity degree at Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, Oregon. Howard spent most of his life serving others in Alberta, Oregon, and California as a pastor and as a college professor. When he retired, Howard moved to Edmonton. During these past few years, he sincerely appreciated the support and care provided by the Aberhart Home Peritoneal Dialysis Unit as well as the encouragement of his friends at Grace Garden Court.
Howard will be lovingly remembered by his children Deanna (Brian) Wiens, Edmonton; Preston (Nanette) Hornby, Oakville, WA; Tera (Rod) Dueck, Sexsmith, AB; Mitchell (Jersia) Hornby, Luanda, Angola; and Erik (Delaney) Hornby, Chehalis, WA; his grandchildren Abram (Christine), Anakate, Bethany, Tim, Courtney (Robbie), Collin, Mason, Rian, and Mitchell Jr.; one great-grandchild, Cole; and his cousins, nieces, and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Elizabeth Hornby; and his sister, June Hilman.
A viewing will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home and Cemetery (52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, AB) on Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. At Howard’s request, there will be a private family memorial followed by an interment.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and other caregivers in Unit 41 at the Grey Nuns Hospital for the kindness, compassion, and support they gave Howard, especially during the last few weeks.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Howard’s name to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice. For online condolences, please visit www.glenwoodmemorial.com.
