Hibbert Charles McGuire
1923-2017
Just 28 days short of his 94th birthday, with his loving
family, as always, by his side, Hibbert Charles McGuire passed into
eternity on November 16 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in
Saint John, NB to parents Richard and Eva (Titus) McGuire, he is
survived by his children Bruce, Sandra (Rob), Katherine, Kimberley
(the late James) Kupkee, Heather (David) McQuinn; grandchildren Robert
(Candace) and Andrew (Emma) McGuire, Adelle and Jordan Dickeson,
Karyssa Sewell, Brittany (Jordan) McEachern, Matthew and William
McQuinn; great-grandchildren Rayanne, Benjamin, Chloe, and Kailie
McGuire; sisters Sylvia (Heikkila), and Lois (Medina); devoted
companion Flo Torrey; and special nephews and nieces.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Joyce
(McKay), brothers Richard, Otto, Walter, Roland, George, Robert, and
Sutton; sisters Phyllis King, Shirley Nash, Betty Turner, and Janette
Allen; and his grandson David McQuinn, Jr.
Hibbert was a man of quiet fortitude and humble unassuming
ways. Reserved in his expressions of affection, he quietly loved each
person with all his heart—becoming a special confidant to
each. He reveled being on the water and working outside. An ILA 273
Longshoreman, and fisherman throughout his life, he knew what it was
like to work hard to provide for his family, teaching his children
respect for the basics of life and people. His heart was big and his
thinking practical, always recognizing and providing for the needs of
others, above “people pleasing” and materialism. Being a
faithful member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69, he was a lover of
music and dance, Turner Classic Movies, and was able in so many ways:
from sitting around a table at a Dock Street restaurant singing with
Hank Snow, to painting with precision, to woodworking, to
“rustling up some grub” for his family. This was our Dad,
brother, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and
friend… appreciated and loved forever.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff
of 5CN, 4BN and the palliative care unit of the Saint John Regional
Hospital.
