Herma Petronella Maria Herma Van Der Linden

VAN DER LINDEN, Petronella Maria Hermine (Herma) – With heavy hearts but fond remembrance we announce the passing of Herma Van der Linden, who at 90 years succumbed to the effects of Influenza, then Pneumonia in Guelph General Hospital on January 23, 2017. Born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, she survived the depression and living in occupied Europe during WW II. Marrying Cornelius (Cor) Van der Linden, she moved to Canada in 1954. Employed as a seamstress in the Montreal area, she then became the proud full-time mother of Roy, then Florence. The family moved from Montreal to Cobourg, Ontario in the mid-1960’s, to Sherbrooke, QC in the mid-70’s, to Mississauga in the early 80’s, and in the early 90’s settled in Georgetown after the passing of her husband. Besides sewing, gardening and cooking, her life passion was to care for children as a nanny for neighbours as well as for her family. Though initially a shy person, she loved and was loved by extended family and care givers. We will miss her strength and confidence, kindness, caring and compassion. She is survived by family and friends in Ontario, Michigan, in the Netherlands and Belgium and in Australia, including Flo & Randy, Steven & Jason Kerr, Roy, Katheryn (Kirchmeir) & Emma Van der Linden and many others. We loved you as Mom, Oma, and friend. Donations can be made in Herma’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.ca). Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home on Saturday from 10 – 11 am. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM in the chapel.
