Obituary for Helen Muriel MacLeod (Martin)
1914 – 2017
Helen passed away in her sleep on Thursday, October 26th at Carlingview Manor, a month before her 103rd birthday. She will be remembered for her positive disposition, care for others, love of family and music. Born in St. John’s, NL, she emigrated to Canada with her husband, the late William “Sandy” MacLeod (1996) in 1937 and lived in Kapuskasing, ON, Masson, QC, and Ottawa, ON. Helen volunteered with the Red Cross (WWII), St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Buckingham, QC, and in Ottawa, at The National Gallery of Canada and the Eye Care Centre of the Riverside Hospital. Helen is survived by her children Heather (Douglas Wyles, deceased), Peter (Tanya Galt), and Martin (Marilyn Stadler), their children, and three further generations. The family thanks the caregivers at Oakpark Retirement Community and Carlingview Manor. A public Memorial Service will be held in Ottawa in the Spring of 2018.
