Helen Margaret Gerrie (Goudie) – 1924 – 2017

Obituary for Helen Gerrie
Long-time resident of Fergus, passed away Wednesday the 6th of September at Groves Memorial Hospital. Helen is known for the incredible family she raised, her five “boys” Bryan, Steve, Randy, Brad, Scott, daughters-in-law, her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her strength, grace and the warmth of her laugh, butter tarts, knitted afghan blankets and slippers. If you had the time, she could keep you smiling for hours as she shared stories from her childhood farm, the old Tweddle hatchery, Beatty Bros., Hotel La Placia, Huth’s pharmacy, her fond memories of Joe, or any of the many times one of the boys, including Joe, got into “mischief”. She also had a very special connection to her many pets over the years. If you caught a swift shot to the arm unexpectedly, she’d tell you, “that was for nothing, just wait till you do something”. A true force to be reckoned with, she kept the family in line and hosted holiday dinners every year at her place on St. Patrick Street East. To have a seat at her table meant you were going to have to loosen your belt, and that was before the cookies and tarts. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her. Survived by her sons Bryan, Randy and Brad. Friends will be received at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 280 St. David St. South in Fergus, on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral Service will be conducted in the Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday, September 11th, 2017 at 11:00am. Interment at Belsyde Cemetery. Memorial donations can be directed to Groves Memorial Community Hospital Foundation. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
