Service Details
Peacefully at Kelso Villa, on Friday morning, October 20th, 2017. Helen Ethel (nee McGinnis) of Owen Sound in her 102nd year. Dearly beloved wife of Charles “Chuck” Alles (1986) Loving mother of Carol Ann and her husband Wayne Gibbons of Owen Sound. Proud Grandmother of David Traplin and his wife Sheila and Jason Traplin both of Hamilton, Kimberly Gibbons and her husband Mark of Wiarton, Greg Gibbons and his wife Kim of Owen Sound. Great Grandmother of Dayne, Spencer, Lily, Ryerson, Tyler and Ellie. Pre deceased by her daughter Mary Louise Traplin (2003) and by her parents Joseph and Mabel McGinnis.
Helen and her husband Chuck co-owned the very well established hotel, The Seldon House in Owen Sound from 1937 until they sold in 1964. Helen then became a well known and long time dedicated employee at the MacKay Bros. downtown Owen Sound until it closed in 1989. Helen was a very proud member of the Division Street United Church and the local I.O.D.E
Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 24th, 2017 from 11:00am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at the Breckenridge-Ashcroft Funeral Home, 241 9th Street West, Owen Sound, 519-376-2326. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the Chapman House Hospice or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
