Helen Bate
December 19, 1931 – May 5, 2017
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Helen Bate at her home in Cobourg on May 5th, 2017. Born to Frank and Jeanette Wilson in Cobourg, Helen lived here her entire life. Married to Clifford Bate in 1954 they settled into family life with the birth of their two daughters, Brenda and Terri two years later. Helen was employed by Kraft General Foods and retired after 26 years. She had a “passion for fashion”. She loved to shop, a “real born shopper”. Mom loved owls and had over 100. Helen loved to send cards for all occasions. She never forgot a birthday or holiday. Throughout her life with Cliff they loved to camp. They summered in Orillia at the trailer well into their seventies. Mom was the heart and soul of our family. Pre-deceased by her sisters Jean Cavanaugh and Carol Sommerville and her brother Bud Wilson. She leaves behind her husband of 63 years Clifford Bate and her cat Cocoa, her two daughters Brenda Bate and Terri Desrochers (Julien), four grandchildren Clinton Coleman (Karen), Bridgette Corbett (Mike), Jesse Desrochers and Lucas Medon , six great grandchildren, nieces Pat Turner, Sharon Bate and Wendy Skinner. She will be greatly missed by her friends and Rhonda Ferguson. Service to be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg on Tuesday May 9th, 2017, with visiting from 1-2 pm, followed by a short service and reception. Interment in Cobourg Union Cemetery. If desired donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association or Northumberland Humane Society in lieu of flowers. Condolences received at www.MacCoubry.com.
