Hawkins, William (Retired Belleville OPP Detachment Commander), passed away at QHC-Belleville General Hospital on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Shirley (nee Cronk) Hawkins. He was predeceased by his parents, the Late Jesse and Beulah (nee Ford) Hawkins. Dear father of Kimberly and Jennifer Hawkins, both of Belleville, Calvin, of BC, and Christopher (Kristy) of Woodstock, ON. Bill was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Matthew (Nikki), and Joshua Gjelstad; and Caitlyn, Jesse, Ellie, and Cooper Hawkins. Bill was also loved by four great-grandchildren: Noah, Hannah, Mikaela, and Joshua. Bill is survived by two sisters, Marion (David) Weedmark, of London, and Gloria (Leo) Heyboer, of Kingsville. Bill will be sadly missed also by Shirley’s family: sisters Doris Smith and Mary (Ross) Lumley, both of Belleville, and brothers Harold Cronk of Wellington and Walter (Judy) Cronk of Bloomfield. Bill was also respected by several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, 30 Moira Street West, Belleville. (613-968-2273). The family will receive friends at the Steele Funeral Home on Thursday, January 5th, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at the Steele Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 6th, at 10:30 am. Stan Fergusson L.L.D. officiating. Private Family Inurnment to take place at Belleville Cemetery Niche Wall at a later date. Following the funeral, there will be further opportunity to share memories and fellowship with the family at the Steele Family Centre, adjacent to the funeral home. Memorial Donations to BGH Foundation (Oncology) would be appreciated by the family.
