Harvey Roussel

Bathurst – Harvey Roussel, 85, of
Fairway Court, Bathurst, passed away on Saturday December 31, 2016, at
the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, after a brief
illness.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the
late Lazarre Roussel (former chief of police of Bathurst) and the late
Mary Jane Robichaud.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years,
Laurette (Doucet) Roussel and one son, Jacques (Heather) of
Bathurst.
Two grandchildren: Maxime Breau Roussel
(Véronique) and David Alexandre Roussel
(Gabrielle).
Two sisters: Lorraine Boudreau (late
Bernie) of Fredericton and Theresa
“Tessie” Harrison (late Jack) of Dorchester,
ON. Several nieces and
nephews.
He was pre-deceased by three brothers:
Omer, Alfred, Charles Augustin “Gus” and three sisters:
Albertine, Géraldine and
Rita.
Harvey was a great hockey player and was
a member of the Bathurst Papermakers teams from the late 1950’s, early
60’s. He also played for and coached the Tracadie Alpines in
the early 70’s.
He was an excellent businessman as he
and Laurette opened the first drug store in the Acadian Peninsula
(Roussel Pharmacy) located in Tracadie. This thriving
business went on to become Jean Coutu Pharmacy. A second
store was opened in Caraquet later
on.
During the 70’s & 80’s he was a
member of the Tracadie Town Council, also on the board of the Villa
St-Joseph Nursing Home, past president of the NB Hospital Association
and was active in several other groups &
associations.
Harvey was
an avid golfer, never missing a men’s night &
snowmobiler up until his passing. He loved the woods as he
spent countless days at his camp with family and
friends.
As per Dad’s wishes, there will be no
visitation at the Funeral
Home.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on
Thursday January 12th, 2017
at 2 p.m. from Holy Family Church, Bathurst, with a
reception to follow in the Church basement. Donations in
memory of Harvey may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a
charity of the donors choice. Arrangements are in the care
of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com),
Bathurst.
