Obituary for Guy Dew
It is with deep sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Guy Dew, at the age of 66, following a brief battle with cancer.
Guy leaves to mourn his wife and best friend Yvonne, his beloved sons Troy (Marianne) and Shane (Sandra), along with his grandchildren Gabriel, Keziah, Dario and Luca.
Guy was born and raised in the Windthorst, Saskatchewan area. In January 1970, he headed to Thompson, Manitoba to work for the Inco Mining Company and shortly after Yvonne joined him in Thompson where they started their life together. Guy married the love of his life in May of 1971 and later welcomed Troy and three years later Shane. Guy and Yvonne loved their life in Thompson and raising their boys there. Summers were spent fishing as a family and there was not one night or weekend that they would go without getting on the water. Guy ended up having to buy Yvonne a dishwasher as everything was put aside while they prioritized their fishing time with the boys. In addition to fishing, Guy enjoyed teaching his sons to hunt and trap.
Guy was proud of his 30 year career at Inco, where he started as a miner, then became a millwright and finished off as a maintenance foreman.
In October of 2000, Guy and Yvonne retired to the Swan River area where they built their dream home and got the chance to become hobby farmers with only three 1/4 sections of land. Guy and Yvonne would spend many evenings together going for drives to look for deer, elk or moose and this was something that Guy also loved to do with his sons when they came for a visit. Over the years, many close and treasured friendships were formed in the Swan River area which Yvonne will continue to cherish.
Guy had many interests: fishing, trapping, quading and raising buffalo on the farm. Every summer, he enjoyed having huge gardens and then sharing items from the garden with family and friends. His lifelong passion though was hunting, and combined with his love of travel, Guy and Yvonne were fortunate to spend the last eleven years travelling to South Africa to hunt. While in Africa, they formed wonderful friendships and also enjoyed time touring through South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Guy and Yvonne also spent much time travelling in their years together to various hot destinations which will serve as wonderful memories for Yvonne.
The love of nature and conservation was very important to Guy. He volunteered in many organizations over the years that promoted ethical hunting and conservation practices. Guy had a true love of animals from a very young age, especially for cats. First Tux, and then Felix, were very important to him.
The family would like to thank all of those that helped Guy and Yvonne over the last few weeks. In keeping with Guy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held.
