Guy Anthony “Tony” Kaine
1946-2017
KAINE, Guy Anthony “Tony”
June 27, 1946 – December 12, 2017
Peacefully at Grand River Hospital, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at
71 years of age.
Tony is survived by Yvonne, his wife of 45 years, his brother Charles,
his sister Brenda, his sister-in-law Wendy-Lee Fiset, and
brother-in-law Stuart Thomson (Carol). Predeceased by his parents
Gerald and Jean Kaine, his parents-in-law Iris and Bob Johnstone, and
his brother John.
Born in Montreal and raised in Shawinigan, Quebec, Tony taught French
Immersion in Pointe Claire, Qc, where he met Yvonne. He and Yvonne
lived in Pointe Claire until they moved to Ontario (Oakville) in the
Fall of 1999 and then to Cambridge in 2003. Tony also worked many
years in Operations/Logistics for the transportation industry.
Tony’s interests included coaching and refereeing minor league and Old
Timers hockey (Montreal), sailing (Oakville), golf (everywhere) and
travelling. Tony and Yvonne travelled extensively to many countries
throughout their marriage, both before and after 2005, when Tony’s
health created challenges which he refused to let prevent him from
pursuing his passion for travel. Tony was an active member of the
Cambridge Stroke Recovery Association, and for the past 5 years he
volunteered as a peer mentor with the Linking Survivors with Survivors
program at Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH). Always willing to assist
with educational programs aimed at improved Stroke Recovery for
survivors, Tony and Yvonne visited Music Therapy classes at Wilfrid
Laurier, and participated in several student projects for McMaster
University.
Since Tony’s first Stroke in 2005, he has been supported by a
wonderful team of therapists-sincere thanks to Nancy, Lori, Tonya,
Barb and Antonella. The family would like to thank and commend the ICU
nurses and doctors both at CMH and Grand River Hospital in Kitchener,
and send a special shout-out to the paramedics in Cambridge, whose
services Tony so appreciated.
In memory of Tony, donations to the Cambridge Stroke Recovery
Association would be appreciated (425 Hespeler Road, Suite 509,
Cambridge, ON, N1R 8J6).
In keeping with Tony’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a
private family interment will be held at a later date.
