Gunter Zahn
Gunter Emil Zahn passed away Saturday, December 12, 2017 after failing health. Gunter Emil Zahn was born on July 4, 1932 at Dorntal, East Germany to Willie and Martha (Mindt) Zahn. At an early age, Gunter relocated to Dreisen, West Germany. In May, 1954 Gunter decided to move to Canada which was his childhood dream. He worked at Hodgeville, SK for a farmer and in 1958 joined CP Rail as a Sectionman and then became a Crane Operator and this job took him all over Saskatchewan. He laid tracks in most of the Potash mines and loaded many cars of gravel. In November 1964 Gunter met the love of his life, Doreen Larson, while working at Kerrobert, SK. On September 30, 1966 they were married and had two daughters, Shannon and Karien. These girls were Gunter’s delight. He was a loving, caring husband and father, also a great friend to many. He always loved to share a joke or two. Gunter’s favorite pastime was gardening, fishing, going to hockey games and coffee row. He was a member of the Kerrobert Legion and Wildlife Federation. He always enjoyed preparing for the annual Wildlife Supper. Gunter relocated to Saskatoon and after ill health he moved to Oliver Lodge. Gunter’s happiest event was when he became a Grandpa. Gunter was predeceased by his wife, Doreen; parents, Willie and Martha; brother, Helmut; grandson, Gabriel Haydukewich. Left to mourn his passing are daughters, Shannon (Steve) Phillips and Karien Haydukewich (Ed Brown); grandchildren, Carson and Paige Haydukewich and Ed’s children, Sarah and Blake Brown; sister-in-law, Marlies Zahn and family; brother Alfred Zahn and family, and many good friends.
