Obituary for Gretel Baron
BARON- Mrs. Gretel Baron, age 85 years, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017. She was a former member of the German Canadian Association and an active supporter of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. Her entrepreneurial spirit led to the purchase of the Chalet Lodge in Nipigon in 1963, which the family operated for 15 years. Gretel loved to cook and had many hobbies that she enjoyed over the years. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to sew, knit, crocheting, paint, listen to music, bake, walk, and play cards. Her greatest love was her family and she spent many Sundays preparing meals and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Gretel will be lovingly remembered by her son Manfred (Susan), daughter Irene (Doug) Cole, grandchildren Jean-Pierre (Christine) and Werner Baron (Amanda); Darrell (Brynn) and Andrea Cole (Jeff) and great-grandchildren Gavin, Jasper and Cobie.
She was predeceased by her husband Jakob and son Harald.
Many thanks to the outstanding staff at Hilldale Gardens Retirement Living and Pioneer Ridge for their loving care of Gretel.
Cremation has taken place and a family memorial will be held at a later date. Should friends desire, donations to the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra would be appreciated.
