MACLEAN,
Gregory
Cole
Harbour/Sydney
It is with profound grief and sadness that we announce the
passing of the light of our life, Gregory James MacLean on Sunday,
December 3, 2017.
Gregory was born in Sydney on December 13, 1988.
In 2007, Gregory graduated from Sydney Academy, where he
played for the Wildcats Hockey Team all three years. He was very proud
to be named team captain in his senior year. Greg played for the Jr. B
Miners from 2007-2009, of which he had wonderful memories. Froto, as
he was so lovingly referred, took great pride in all things he did. He
had a love of music that was unparalleled. Gregory was a lyrical
genius who loved the written word, loved to spin a rhyme that hit hard
at an emotion or an issue. There you saw his passion. When it came to
fashion, no one could wear their socks outside their high-tops like
Greg. Gregory joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2010 and was a
Corporal in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He completed recruit school
in St. Jean, Quebec and carried out his trade training in Borden, Cold
Lake and Kingston. An Avionics Systems Technician, Greg was a member
of 12 Air Maintenance Squadron, 12 Wing Shearwater. Greg loved coming
home to Cape Breton and spending time with “da
boi’s“, as he so affectionately called them, to
reminisce about their glory days and all the fun times they had
hanging out at the barn with Gregory telling the most ridiculous jokes
to make everyone laugh.
Greg is survived by his parents, Jim and Debbie (MacLean)
MacRury; grandmother, Joyce MacLean, Sydney; the love of his life,
girlfriend, Meghan O’Keefe; uncles, Ron (Susan) MacLean,
Ottawa, Jim (Nancy) MacLean, Timberlea and John Hugh (Sharon) McRury,
Kingston; aunts, Karen (Dan) MacKinnon, Fall River, Paula (Stephen)
MacLeod, Sydney and Catherine Anne (Brian) Bowman, Port Hawkesbury;
biological father, Robert MacCormack; paternal grandmother, Frankie
MacCormack and a long list of friends that span the country. Greg had
the title of “cool cousin” from Katie, Lauren, Scott,
Joseph, Calum, Michael, Rannie, Adam, Matthew, Melissa, Katie and
Rosalie. Greg is survived by his feisty and loving English bulldog,
Mira, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his fairy
godmother, Karen (Jacques) Mulvihill-Gaudet and his biggest fans, John
and Jeanette Mulvihill, whom Gregory adored.
Gregory was predeceased by his hero and idol,
“Poppy” Big Jim MacLean and grandparents, Jim and Pauline
MacRury.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on
Friday, December 8 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take
place at St. Theresa’s Church on Saturday, December 9 at 1
p.m., with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Interment in Resurrection
Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cape
