Gregory Coakley – 2017

COAKLEY, Gregory
Our dad James Gregory Coakley passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in his own home. He was 96 years old.
Born in Margaree, NS, son of Nellie and Thomas Coakley, he was the oldest of a family of 11 children. He is survived by two brothers, Vern and Steve, and two sisters, Martha and Bernadette.
Dad was a war veteran who served in England where he met the love of his life our mom, Moyra, and was blessed with 72 years of marriage, before mom passed away in September 2016.
He worked in the coal mines for 20 years and then changed to become a farmer. This move to the countryside was one of the best choices he made. Dad was a self-taught man who had many skills. He also liked musical instruments and he played a number of them but the guitar was his favourite. He also loved to skate and to ski and using his short wave radio.
He is survived by two sons, Gregory and Laurence; three daughters, Velda, Moyra and Michelle; 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Dad will greatly be missed.
Visitation for the late Gregory Coakley will be held Saturday July 29 at 10 a.m. in the JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A Funeral Mass to celebrate his life will follow at 11 a.m. in St Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Reception to follow at Florence Legion
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
