February 6 1937 December 19 2017 (age 80)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend – Gordon Edwin Mifflin. Gordon passed away at the Claresholm General Hospital on December 19, 2017 surrounded by family.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 56 years – Anna Mae, his son Ray (Bev) Mifflin of High River and Laurel (Todd) Heggie of Claresholm, four wonderful and special grandchildren – Tim, Jenna, Corey and Jordie, their spouses and five great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends
Gordon was predeceased by his father Joe and mother Ella. He was born in Granum, Alberta on February 6, 1937 during a snowstorm that required a sleigh ride to meet up with the doctor who delivered him. His family soon after relocated from the Granum area to a farmstead near Carmangay, Alberta where he was raised and attended and completed his schooling – making many special friendships that carried through the years.
He was later employed by the County of Vulcan and it was during this time that he met the love of his life Anna Mae Bell from Claresholm, Alberta whom he married in September of 1961. After their marriage he and Anna Mae moved to Claresholm and raised their two children in this community, making many dear friends throughout the years. Gordon worked for many years as an agricultural mechanic and gained the respect of many farmers for his extensive knowledge and expertise of farming equipment – still receiving calls for advice up to a few months ago.
In 1981, Gordon and his family began ranching on the family ranch in the foothills West of Claresholm. This is where Gordon was truly in his element and found satisfaction and success with his cattle. He retired at this time and spent the next few years enjoying travel, friends, family and a more relaxing pace of life.
Gordon was well known for his big smile, kindness, generosity, helpfulness and gift of the gab. He spent many hours being a friend and role model to his children and grandchildren, teaching and mentoring them to become the best they could. His valuable lessons will be passed on to generations to follow. He had a great impact on many and will be remembered by all that knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Claresholm United Church ( 4803 – 2 Street West ) on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 1:00 pm with Reverend David Robertson officiating.
