FOURNIER, Godfrey Harris
June 7th, 1924 ~ February 4th, 2017
Surrounded by family, departed this life for yet a still greater life into the arms of God. Predeceased by his wife of 60 years Margaret (nee Quinn). Father of Michael (Louise), Mary Ellen Henniger (Dave), Godfrey (Lydia), Janice Dawson (Mike), Catherine Hutchingame (Eric), Stephen (Val), John (Ann) and Paul (Josée). Grandfather and friend of Maggie (Dean Rocco), Matthew (Melanie), Robert, Anna (Thom Tyson), Beth (Sheldon Blackmore), the late Jane, Mark (Jessica), Joey, Ryan, James, Jack, Kathleen, Gabriele, Hannah, Katrina, Jake, Natalie, Mitchell, Heather, Madeleine, Cameron, Brandon, Thomas and Adrian. Great-grandfather of Keely, Liam, Quinn, Abby, Madeleine, Benjamin, Francis, Ellie, Grace, Michael, Patrick and Harrison.
Godfrey was born and grew up in Sandy Hill. He served in the RCAF during WWII. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a devout Catholic. Godfrey was very fond of his parents, brothers and sisters and would tell stories about their early life at St. Joseph Parish in Sandy Hill, St Patrick’s College on Echo Drive and Father Holly’s camp on the Petawawa River. He made lifelong friends from that time (especially the canal boys that hopped the freight from Sandy Hill to St. Pat’s) and that friendship has continued through generations. He imparted to his children the love of Ottawa and the Gatineau Hills. He was forever young in heart and spirit and made a connection with all whom he encountered. He was a gentleman. He always said that his greatest achievement was marrying Margaret Quinn who brought strength and tranquility to his life. We mourn a man who has left a family and a community united in his loving memory.
Special thanks to the Heart Institute staff at the Civic Hospital for their wonderful care and 110% attention.
