Giacomo (Jack) Picco – 2017

On February 18, 2017, Jack Picco passed away at the age of 83, with his family by his side. Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Rita; sons, Dennis (Shannon May) and Louis; and grandchildren, Emma, Sarah, Jessica, Ryan and Andrew. Jack was predeceased by his parents and siblings.
Jack was born in Flaibano, Italy. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 19 with nothing but his older brother, Ettore. They worked on the DEW line in the north, and eventually joined the growing Italian community in Edmonton where Jack was able to work in his trade of carpentry. Jack met Rita while visiting Italy, and after several years of correspondence, returned to Italy to marry Rita and escort her to her new life in Canada.
Jack was a builder, fixer, gardener, singer and debater. He was a man of deep faith. He loved Canada for the opportunity it gave him to build a bright future for him and his family, and for its freedom and tolerance for diversity. Jack valued his family above all else, and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He treasured time with his grandchildren, and when he was able, could be found at the hockey rink or soccer field cheering them on. He will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Venta Care for the compassionate care provided to Jack during his last few years.
