Obituary for Gertrude Sawatzky
Trudy Sawatzky, age 92 years passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 in Pinewood Court. Trudy was born in Prince Albert, Sask. On June 19, 1925 to John and Inga Brow. She had two brothers Jackie and Jim. In 1944, she married Bert Walton and moved to Campbellville, Ont., and had welcomed three daughters; Carole, Bette and Lynda. In 1960 Trudy moved to Port Arthur with the girls and took a teaching job with the Port Arthur School Board (Lakehead P.S.B.).
In 1972 Trudy married Jim McMullen who also enjoyed travelling. Together they bought a place in Florida where they spent their winters. After Jim passed, Trudy retired to Glacier Ridge, where she met Don Sawatzky. After a short time, having similar interests they married with both families in attendance. They enjoyed many cruises and family dinners. When Don passed, Trudy moved to Hilldale Retirement Living and then Pinewood Court Retirement Home.
Trudy will be sadly missed by her daughters Carole (Lloyd) Miller, Bette (Jim) Rowe, Lynda(George) Milne, her 6 grandchildren Catherine and John Miller, Lisa and David Rowe, Beth and Graham Milne as well as her 13 great grandchildren, her brother Jim (Helen) Brow as well as numerous friends and other relatives.
Many thanks for the excellent care received by the staff at Pinewood Court during the past 3 years.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Trudy’s life will be held in the New Year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BISNO or to the Alzheimer’s Society in Trudy’s memory. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
