GERNOT ALBERT “AL” JACKER
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mr. Gernot Albert “Al” Jacker, age 86 years, on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. We are relieved that his suffering has ended.
Al was born in Augsburg, Germany on October 19, 1930, he was one of twelve children born to Frieda and Edward Jacker. As a young man, he emigrated to Canada and settled in Port Arthur. Al upgraded his education to become an accountant. He was employed with Green’s Plumbing until it’s closure and then as an office manager with Half-Way Motors until his retirement in 1995.
Al and Elinor’s love for the outdoors led him to try his hand at constructing a summer camp on McLeish Lake. Over 30 summers were happily spent enjoying family, sauna, swimming and canoeing. He was also a long-time member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Al enjoyed sports, particularly tennis, downhill skiing and later cross country skiing. He assisted The Dudley Vigars and crew in creating the Mount Baldy Ski area.
Survived by his beloved wife and soul-mate, Elinor; cherished daughters Debra (Neil) Burton of Thorold, ON and Lisette; loving grandsons Cory (Crystal) Koski and Nicholas and Lucas Livingstone; great grandsons Matthew and Elliot Koski; sister Helga Randall of Colorado Springs, CO and brother in-law Ken Tremblay. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive in the U.S., Germany and Australia.
Predeceased by his parents; 10 siblings and niece Christina Randall; also his beloved furry kids Scotty and Mimi.

A private graveside service was held on the beautiful sunny morning of Friday, May 12, 2017 in Riverside Cemetery with Rev. Tim Barone of Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma in care of arrangements.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
Al will be remembered by us as a considerate and extremely patient and gentle soul.
Rest in Peace, Goodbye Papa.
