George William Saulis – 1948-2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
George William Saulis of Oromocto First Nation. He passed away at
Hospice House in Fredericton on August 22, 2017 at the age of 68,
after a long hard-fought battle against Leukemia. He was the son of
the late Robert John Saulis of Tobique First Nation, NB and Lucy Ann
Nash of Gagetown NB.
George and his late wife Debbie raised six boys,
four of them fosters sons they adopted, and throughout the years cared
for many more foster children together. George was a
hardworking father, who shared his love for wood working with his sons
and grandsons. George started George and Sons Woodworking in
1970 in a small shop in his back yard, and the business remains one of
the longest running Maliseet Businesses in NB. In 1989 his
two eldest sons joined George in the work shop, where they worked side
by side with George for the past 40 years. George was
respected as a fine cabinet builder and skilled carpenter. Some of his
work has been sent as far away as Australia and Wales. He
was part of the crew who built the Maqtaquac Dam and the Burton
Bridge. He taught cabinet making and mentored many young men and women
in carpentry throughout the years.
In his free time, he enjoyed fiddle heading, hunting,
watching wrestling, playing Pac Man, and collecting tools!
He especially loved working on projects with his sons and
grandchildren, and sitting around a campfire on one of his swings with
his wife.
George is survived by his two sons, Mark Saulis (Tammy) and
George Robert Saulis (Kim); their adopted children; Robert John Saulis
(Tasha), Stefan Levi Saulis (Ashley), Trevor Eddie Saulis and Cody
William Thomas Saulis. Brothers and sisters-in-law; Mark
(Joyce), Faye (Jim), Janice and Phyllis, grandchildren; Samantha
(Dillon), Marky, April, Bennett, Jessica, Tara, Tyler, Peyton, Sophie,
Berenger, Andrea (Dan), Benjamin, Emmalee, as well as several god
children, nieces, nephew and cousins and his good friend Jim
Mossop. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Debbie
Darlene Saulis, their infant daughter, and his sister Norma
Paul.
George will be resting at his home at 2 Wel-A-Mook-Took
Street, Oromocto First Nation on Wednesday August 23, 2017
2:00 pm until Friday August 25, 2017 at 10:00 am. A funeral Mass will
be celebrated on August 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at St Vincent de Paul
