Obituary for George Papavacilopoulos
Papavacilopoulos, George September 10, 1936 – February 3, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather George Papavacilopoulos on February 3, 2017 at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his loving daughter Katerina (Michael) Desautels, his grandchildren Lucas and Nathan, his brothers Christos and Dimitri and sister Vasiliki in Greece, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. George was predeceased by his loving wife Ermioni who was taken from him suddenly 26 years ago but his love for her never diminished. He was also predeceased by his parents Ioannis and Sofia and his brother Nikolaos. George was born in Artemisia, Greece on September. 10, 1936 and immigrated to Canada in 1962 to join his beloved Ermioni and start their new life together in Canada. George owned and operated Olympic Billiards for over 27 years before retiring early to further enjoy life with his family and friends. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren; playing soccer with them in the backyard, cheering them on at their hockey games or just taking them for pizza. In his retirement George looked forward to travelling to Greece every summer as well as meeting his friends for coffee each morning. George was an active member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and Community as well as the Hellenic Seniors Society. George was a very kind and generous man who will be greatly missed by his family but we are grateful for the time we had together. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional doctors and nurses at the Rockyview Hospital, his Palliative Care Team Trish and Nishma, as well as Father Peter Rougas and Father Demetrios Polychroniadis for their kindness and support. Prayer Service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (1 Tamarac Crescent SW) on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (1 Tamarac Crescent. SW) on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11:00 am. Graveside service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
