George Lutes
1940-2017
It is with profound sorrow that the family of
George William Lutes, 77, of River Glade, announce his passing on
December 16, 2017 at the Moncton Hospital after a year-long battle
with cancer. Born and raised in River Glade, he was the
youngest son of Roy and Louise (Russell) Lutz.
During his teenage years and into his
20’s and 30’s, George loved to play baseball and
hockey, playing with local teams in the River Glade, Petitcodiac and
Elgin area, finishing off his “hockey days” as a player in
the Petitcodiac Old Timers league. He was also a member of
the Petitcodiac Golf and Country club for many years.
He met the beautiful love of his life, Marilyn Faye Colpitts,
in 1966 and they were married in July of 1968, celebrating 48 years of
marriage before her passing in September of 2016. George
loyally cared for Marilyn, never complaining or asking for assistance,
in a way that only those who knew him well could truly
appreciate.
After 20 years of dedicated employment with
Volkswagen Canada at the Henri Dunant Street offices, George moved on
to work with Canadian Tire, after Volkswagen’s closing in
the early 1980’s. His final employment prior to
retirement, was with New Brunswick School District 2, as a custodial
worker.
A well-known figure at the Petitcodiac arena, he
faithfully attended the “Rec” league games, especially
enjoying the play-off games and chatting with his many
friends. Until the time that his illness revealed itself,
making mobility an issue, George could be found each morning at 8 am,
sitting with the guys at Tim Horton’s in Salisbury, catching
up on the local news.
Young at heart, fun-loving and “full of the
devil”, George’s laid-back character will be forever
missed by his sister, Beatrice LeBlanc (William), River Glade, NB,
brother Stewart (Stew) (Glendine), Petitcodiac, NB, sisters-in-law,
Brenda Colpitts, Victoria, BC, Myrna Lewis (Arnold), Middlesex, NB,
Connie Fawcett, (Vernon), Ontario, Shirley Colpitts (late
Ronald), Salisbury, NB, Marie Colpitts (late Vaughn), Salisbury, NB,
ten nephews, eleven nieces, numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews
and friend, Judy Marshall.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by
two nieces, Marlene Colpitts and Judy Lutes-Berry.
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home, the funeral
service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at 2:30 pm with
Rev. Chris Hayes officiating and a reception to immediately follow the
service. Internment will be in River Glade Anglican
Cemetery. In
honoring George’s wishes, there will be no hours of
visitation.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank
Eugene Weagles for his numerous visits with George, both at home and
in hospital. Your thoughtfulness will never be
forgotten!
If desired, donations in George’s memory to the
Moncton Hospital Palliative Care Unit or a charity of
choice.
