It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of George (Dordy) Henry Sampson on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Florence on January 27, 1930, George was the son of the late James and Rose (Landry) Sampson. He was a member of St. Stephen’s parish, Florence.
George left Florence in 1947 and moved to Montreal, where he was self-employed as an upholsterer until he moved back to Cape Breton in 1985. George loved music and was a talented mandolin and guitar player, and loved spending time with his brothers having a tune. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. George was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 83, Florence.
George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Madonna (Haley); his sister Alice (Johnny) Miles, Alberta; brothers, Harold (Georgette) Big Bras d’Or and Frankie (Bev), Florence; sister-in-law Evelyn Sampson, Florence.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, John, Joe, Charlie, Buddy, Billy and Thomas, sisters, Leona MacInnis, Josie MacLennan and Elmeda Simard and special nephew, Jackie MacInnis, Point Aconi.
Special thanks to Dr. Beth McCormick and the staff of Northside General 4 East who took such loving care of George while there.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home in Sydney Mines on Friday, December 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception will follow at the Florence Legion.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
