Gary Williamson
Williamson, Gary John, S/Sgt. Retired– age 77 of Dartmouth. It is with sadness, the family of Gary Williamson announce his passing on December 5th, 2017. Gary was the son of the late Alexander and Marjorie Pearl (Gay) Williamson. He was a member of the Dartmouth Police Services since 1960, retiring in December of 1994 with the ranks of S/Sgt. He was on the 1st Executive of the Police Union, working in most aspects of Policing, he saw many changes watching Dartmouth grow from a town to a city. He completed many police courses at the Atlantic Police Academy and the Canadian Police College. He was a recipient of two lifesaving awards one in 1986 and another in 1994 which was presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. During his younger years he obtained his pilot’s license, both water and land. Gary was a mild mannered man who was dedicated to his work and most of all his family. He was a member of the Halifax Regional Retired Police Association. He enjoyed travelling with his wife Mary and was very much involved with the activities of his children and grandchildren, who adored being with him and he with them. Dad, the world is a much better place because of you. Your support, advice, and love made us the people we are today. You looked for the best in others and gave the best you had, which was always more than we could ask. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary (Spears); his son, Roger (Lori), Fall River; his daughter, Nancy (Dean), Ottawa; his grandchildren, Kayla, River, Devin, Alexia, Rowan; great grandson, Bronson and brother, Alexander Williamson, Edmonton. A memorial service to be held 1pm, Monday December 11 in Atlantic Funeral Homes 771 Main Street Dartmouth. Reception to follow.
