Obituary for Fred Procyshen
PROCYSHEN
Fred Procyshen passed away on December 4, 2017, 10 days before his 89th birthday, at Hogarth Riverview Manor.
Before retiring, Fred worked for the Fort William Board of Education as a custodian/stationary engineer at Selkirk, Green Acres and McKellar Park. Not only did he keep his school spotless, but often built, repaired and modified things in classrooms to help teachers and students. Throughout his life, Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting firearms and practicing his marksmanship at the range. He had numerous hobbies like building clocks, woodworking, repairing and customizing firearms, making pyrogies with his wife, gardening, and collecting stamps, to name a few. Fred liked to keep busy “puttering”. He was a creative and talented “jack of all trades” who could fix just about anything with his natural ability to “figure things out”. Fred could always be depended upon to help anyone with building, fixing or cleaning. He and his wife regularly travelled to visit friends and relatives across western Canada as Saskatchewan was his original home. Before moving to HRM, Fred enjoyed a happy year at Jasper Assisted Living where listening to music became a very great part of his life.
Thank you to the staff of Jasper and Hogarth Riverview Manor for their kindness and help with Fred’s care along with the support of many friends and relatives. He is remembered as a quiet, gentle hearted and humble soul. A very special thank you to Jim Wyllie and superstar dog, Remy, for their regular visits.
Fred was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen, in July 2015 and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Pat Legacy of Mission, B.C. (James Gascoyne) and his son, Arnie Procyshen of Thunder Bay. He is survived by two sisters and many other relatives.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre of Thunder Bay.
