Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that Geneva’s family announces her passing on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the age of 96 years.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Donald Rogers; her parents Olaf and Helvina Dahl; sisters Myrtle Dahl, Olga Hill, Alice Davies, Chris Bradley, Ruth Culbert and Martha Lekevetz; and brother, Grant Dahl.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister-in-law Doris Keddy; her children Wayne (Lynn) Rogers, Patricia (Randy) Moon, Janet McCallum (Roy) and Sharon (Byron) Davis; grandchildren Renee (Kelly), Sharlene (Boyd), Chad (Terri-Lynn), Jason (Coral), Michelle (Greg), Stephen (Amber), Jenessa (Thomas), Tara, Becky, Kyle (Jenna), Kayla (Rashawn), Geoff, Blake and Brandie (Pascal); numerous beloved great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Geneva was born on February 9, 1921 and raised in Lang, SK where she attended school. She was very sports minded and took part in track and field, baseball and skating. She claims she was the “fastest skater on the Soo Line”! After graduating, she worked in Yorkton as a long-distance telephone operator.
During the war, she completed a Machinist course and then went to Hamilton, Ontario and worked in the Westinghouse and Wallace Barns War Factory for just over a year. While down east, Geneva played a lot of ball with a ladies team primarily playing the position of catcher. In the fall of 1944, she came home and met the love of her life, Donald Rogers of Milestone, SK at a local dance. On July 4, 1945 they were married and in 2015 they marked their 70th anniversary. Family was most important to Geneva with the kids involved in numerous activities from 4-H, music, figure skating, hockey and baseball. In addition to being a devoted mom, Geneva was actively involved in the community with the Milestone Anglican Church, the Curling Club, and the Milestone Figure Skating Club. Geneva had many favorite past times such as cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and gardening.
When the kids stopped in for a visit, it wasn’t uncommon for them to go home with a pan of lasagna, a lemon loaf, muffins or dozens of homemade cookies! In addition, Geneva took pride in the numerous skating dresses and costumes she sewed as well as the many sweaters, mitts, hats and scarves she knit for all the kids and grandkids.
Geneva will be forever remembered by family and friends as a hardworking, kindhearted and giving person, …in her quiet and humble manner, she often lent a helping hand to others, especially in those of need.
A special thank you to the staff at River Bend Crossing Memory Care facility who provided exceptional care for Geneva in her final days.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
