Surrounded by his 3 favorite people, the death of Eric Gaston Barnett
of Minto, NB occurred Tuesday June 6, 2017 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Hospital.
Eric was employed with NB coal for 30+ years and was proud of his coal
mining roots. He served as UMWA president for a number of years, a
role that he took great pride in.
In 2002 following in his late mother Andrea’s footsteps, Eric sought
election for village council. He served 2 terms as Deputy Mayor
before running for the Mayor’s seat in 2008. He went on to
serve 2 terms as Mayor and credits his success on council to the hard
working mayors and councillors that he had the privilege to work with.
He was predeceased by the love of his life Aline (Babineau); his
parents, Andrea and Ed; a brother Edward. He leaves behind his
greatest accomplishment, his 3 children Nicole (Roy) Nick and Erica;
canine companions Jack and Bruin, as well as many sisters in law and
brothers in law and many good friends
Visitation will be held at Hogg Funeral and Cremation Services (10
King Street, Minto) on Sunday, June 11th, 2017 from 6-8PM. Funeral
Service will be held 11:00AM Monday, June 12th from the Holy Rosary
Catholic Church. Interment will take place in Saint Bridget’s
Catholic Cemetery, Hardwood Ridge. In lieu of flowers, the family
would appreciate donations in memory of Eric be made to the Barnett
Memorial Scholarship which is to be set up at Minto High School.
