M. Eileen R. Weir
M. Eileen R. Weir, of Moncton, in her
96th year, passed away peacefully at the Dr.
Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital Centre on Friday, February 17,
2017. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of the late George and
Nora (Cuthbertson) Trites. Eileen was a loving wife, mother, sister
and aunt. She attended St. Bernard’s School and was a
graduate of Moncton High School. During her school years, she was an
avid basketball player. Eileen attended St. Bernard’s Roman
Catholic Church and was a member of the CWL.
She loved her cottage at Pointe-du-Chene where she
entertained her loved ones and friends. An avid sewer, she also
enjoyed knitting and embroidery, caring for her plants and cooking
– especially her famous “Scotch Cookies”.
An avid reader, she has been known to read well into the morning
hours. One of her most favorite things to do was to go shopping with
her sister “Tinny”, whether it was locally or on one
of their many trips to Bangor.
Eileen will be sadly missed by her daughter, Phyllis Algee
(Gary) of Moncton; brother, Ralph Trites of Moncton; nephews, Roger
and Tom Trites and Robert Vautour; nieces, Norah Prior, Judy Steeves,
Lynda Trites and Janet Algee.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her
husband of 70 years, William J. Weir (November 2015); sister, Frances
Vautour; brothers, Tom, Harold, Neil, Jerry and infant brother,
Willis.
Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road,
Moncton (858-1995) on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm only. Funeral Mass
to be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church
(Botsford and Queen Streets) on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00 am,
with Rev. Allison Carroll officiating. Reception in the Church Hall
following Mass. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery,
Dieppe, in the spring.
