After the war years, mom was found teaching, at 18, in a aone room school house! In those days, this was not an oddity. She decided though, that her heart was in nursing & became a registered nursing assistant. Nursing took her, to many different places in Alberta & following years here in Listowel. She worked up at the Listowel hospital, where she worked in obstetrics. Mom also helped with Girl Guides of Canada has a leader.
Religion played an important role in her family. She delivered the Eucharist to those that could not make it to church. She was a long time member of the CWL.
She had many hobbies & interest. If she was not planting flowers, she might be playing darts or bowling. Painting! This was something she really enjoyed. If you have one of her paintings or rocks you are truly lucky! Golfing was a sport she started here in Listowel. She enjoyed getting out & was lucky to have gotten a hole in one!
We have many great memories of family picnics, visiting with cousins & going to the lake on those hot days! Camping in our tent trailer & fishing with dad.
One of the things mom enjoyed was belonging to The Legion. She was a member of the Colour Party & was very proud to carry the flag. She held many positions on the Legion executive.
Later on you could find mom with her best friend Roy at the cottage enjoying campfires, feeding chipmunks & in the winter snowmobiling. They snowmobiled right into their late 70’s!
Anyone who stopped by the house might be fortunate to have come on a day when cabbage rolls or perogies were made. She enjoyed cooking & baking.
We will miss our mom but have many wonderful memories to hold close in our hearts.
