Ed Rode passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, November 9th and is now in the hands of God.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol (nee Coulter) of 62 years and his children Rick (Laurie Hachey), Craig (Cathy deGit), Brad, Ron (Susan Forest), Sheldon (Andrea Ngo), Colleen, Wendy (Martin Brebrich), 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Also survived by siblings Alvin Rode (Alice Huber) and Dorothy Poirier. He was predeceased by his parents William Rode and Mary Lemke, his siblings Theodor, Clara, Gertrude, Leonard, Theresa, and Arnold.
Ed was born in Jansen, Saskatchewan and moved to Alberta with his family when he was a baby. He grew into a man with an easy-going nature, quiet strength and self-confidence. He loved to laugh. He had a great sense of humour and sharp wit that provoked laughter.
When he fell in love and married the woman of his dreams, he settled down to farming, which included raising cattle, growing crops of wheat, barley and children. He enjoyed golfing, horseshoes, and spending time with family.
His faith guided him to treat others with fairness, kindness and generosity. He lived his faith which encouraged others to trust and draw comfort from him and be fortified. He was a proud man who felt pride in his family.
Ed was a man who loved well and was well loved. He will be missed greatly by his friends and family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church (9614 108 Avenue Grande Prairie, Alberta) on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.com) or a charity of your choice.
