It is with much sorrow the family of Edward Michael Havrot announce his passing in his 90 year at Teck Pioneer Residence Kirkland Lake Ontario on Sunday, April 16, 2017 with his dedicated and loving wife of 65 years, Gayle (MacArthur), by his side.
Ed was born in Poland on June 4, 1927 and came to Canada in 1930 and settled with his family in Kirkland Lake, where his father was employed by Sylvanite Mine. Edward was predeceased by his father Anthony, his mother Stella and his brother Al. He is survived by his brother Ted (Wally) of Ottawa and his sister, Anne (James Trunkle) of Great Falls, Montana.
Beloved husband to Gayle (MacArthur), father to four daughters, Joanne Phillips (Lloyd), Catherine Havrot, Barbara Havrot (David Erickson) and Sharon Martineau (Gordon). He will be missed by his 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Ed graduated from KLCVI and started his career with Walter Little Lumber. He was president of the KLY CLUB, a program for youths, where he organized weekly dances, often with live music. He later worked at Jamar Plywood and for a short while, owned and operated a successful forestry company. He then purchased Northern Canada Bakery, delivering bread to corner stores and homes, where he got to know the concerns of his neighbours and friends. At this time he ran for town council and served a few years as councillor before becoming the Reeve of Kirkland Lake for a one year term. He also owned and operated the Teck Hotel. For three terms, he served the constituents of Temiskaming as MPP, where he left his mark on Queen’s Park.
He was very proud of his home and cottage on Lake Sesekinika where the family gathered to enjoy many glorious and memorable summers until they moved back to Kirkland Lake.
Ed was a member of Trinity United Church where he served on the Board as Property Chairman. He was an Honorary Life member of the Doric Lodge No 623 . He will be sorely missed by the many friends he helped over the years and mostly, by his beloved family.
