Edmond G (Ted) Sabourin
1928 – 2017
The Sabourin family wishes to announce the passing of Ted on Wednesday, December 20. He has left us to continue his great life in heaven alongside the love of his life, Barbara.
Born in Port Arthur, raised in Fort William, Ted attended St. Patrick’s School: the Vocational School, and St. Paul’s Jesuit High School in Winnipeg.
His initial entry into the workforce was with Mahon Electric and Chapple’s Department Stores. In 1959 he joined National Revenue Taxation. A few years later, he was one of 33 Taxation employees, from across Canada, to be transferred to Ottawa either as an analyst or programmer to initiate the Taxation Computer Services Department. He thrived in the computer environment which led to Directorships at D.S.S., the Public Service Commission, and the Treasury Board. He accepted a buyout from the Public Service in December 1985.
Ted and Barbara, along with their daughter Kathy, made several tours of the United Kingdom, Europe and the South Pacific. They spent winters at their condo at Vista Royale in Vero Beach, Florida.
After Barbara’s passing in April of 2007, Kathy moved back home. She and Ted began to travel; a flight around the world; a Mediterranean cruise; a Baltic cruise; several Caribbean cruises; a combined holiday in San Francisco with a cruise to Alaska. Their most recent venture was a cruise from Boston to Montreal.
Ted was an avid golfer up until last year, 2016, and a long-time member of Hylands Golf Club. He served on their Tournament Committee for 35 years.
Ted was predeceased by his father, Eucher (52) in 1950; his mother, Kathleen (106) in 2004, his brother Bernard in 2016. He is survived by his brother Paul (Louise); his sister-in-law, Margaret; his brother-in-law, James McComb, his children; James (Norma); Richard (Miriam);Katherine; Kenneth (Dina); grandchildren, Quinton (Nika); Patrick; Dane (Janice); Kaitlin (Nick); Joel; Braden; Ethan; Ella; Michael, and great-grandchildren Max and Aleksander, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to express their thanks to; Dr’s David Davidson, Family Medicine Centre; Christina Canil, General Hospital Cancer Clinic; Stuart Oake, Urology Dept, Civic Hospital; Carol Goncalves, Hematology, General Hospital, and their associates and staff for the great care provided Ted over the years.
Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, December 27 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and Thursday, December 28 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm at Kelly’s Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Road.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 am, Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Resurrection of Our Lord Church, 1940 Saunderson Drive. A reception will follow. Internment at Hope Cemetery on Bank Street.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to your local United Way, St. Paul’s High School, 2200 Grant Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 0P8 or give the gift of life and become a blood donor.
