1925-2017
The death of Earle Gillis, of Oromocto, NB occurred on
November 17th, 2017 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.
Born March 26th, 1925, he was the son of the late Hurley and Annie
(Santer) Gillis and husband of Shirley (Sypher) Gillis.
A veteran of WWII, Earle served in the military
until he retired from the Navy in 1967. He was very involved in his
community and organizations such as RCL Branch #93, Masonic Lodge #13,
St John’s Anglican Church in Oromocto, FSNA and he was a lifetime
member of the Oromocto Hospital Foundation.
Earle is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, John
Gillis (Cecile Joy) of Rocky Mountain House, AB and Joanne Davidson
(John) of Oromocto, NB; his siblings, Paul Gillis of Penticton, BC and
Irene Bettle of Hampton, NB; his sister-in-law, Barbara Forbes as well
as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Donald, Freeman and
Douglas Gillis and Joyce Mersereau.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on
Monday, November 20th, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 PM. A
memorial service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Oromocto,
on Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 at 11 am. The Rev.
Canon Walter Williams will officiate. A reception will follow in the
church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Oromocto Public
Hospital Foundation or charity of the donor’s choice would be
appreciated.
